Vamp

His eyes rolled back into his head
A passerby would think him dead
Against his throat her lips were pressed
His blood her only quest

His heartbeat throbbed, his blood she drained
Yet oddly there was little pain
A flush bloomed on her deathly cheek
As she gained what she did seek

But then he saw in moonlight’s glare
Her red-stained mouth, her lifeless stare
Unnatural length of tooth and claw
He knew then what he saw.

Her face was lit, but from within
And though he knew this to be sin
Her gave to her her one desire
It set his soul on fire

She finished then and took his hand
At first he did not understand
What could he do he had not done
But then he saw the sun

The night-black sky had turned to pink
There was no time for him to think
As she drew him into shadows deep
To sleep immortal sleep

So at her bier he took a stand
To guard her rest, as she had planned
For in her thrall he’d surely be
Through all eternity
